Should planning departments enforce stricter controls on long-term management of land as part of planning consents?

What are your thoughts? We would appreciate hearing a few different perspectives on this one.

    Hello Elizabeth,

This is an interesting proposal. I agree that there would be value in making long term maintenance and upkeep of a building a condition of granting planning permission.
However, I think it would be very difficult to enforce. Both due to resource constraints in local authorities and also due to difficulties of interfering in private management of private property.

What could be more effective would be to have stricter controls in place to enforce Repairs Notices when they are issued, to check they are carried out and that repairs are undertaken to the desired standard.

    What do others think?
